Roadside Emergencies ¡ª Who You Gonna Call? |
|
It¡¯s 2 a.m. and your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. You¡¯re not sure what¡¯s wrong w h the car, and even if you did know, you don¡¯t have the tools to fix . Who can you call for help? Consumers who lease or own new vehicles, save time and money, retain freedom of choice and gain a sense of secur y using a resource many don¡¯t know is available¨Cemergency roadside assistance programs provided by your vehicle¡¯s manufacturer. According to a 1998 J.D. Power and Associates survey, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) emergency roadside assistance plans cover the major y of new and/or leased vehicles for several roadside emergencies including minor collisions. Yet, more than one-third of the consumers covered by OEM plans contact independent providers, usually insurance companies. The roadside emergency coverage offered by original vehicle manufacturers match or are often more inclusive than the insurance companies¡¯ counterparts. For example the Ford Auto Club provides the following roadside assistance throughout the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Canada:
Service 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays
Towing for warranty and non-warranty problems including accidents
Changing of flat tires on-s e
Delivering fuel if the vehicle runs out of gas
Jump starting dead batteries
Unlocking doors Ford covers all s vehicles under the Ford Roadside Assistance program for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, (48 months or 50,000 miles for Lincoln) or for the duration of the vehicle¡¯s lease. The Ford Customer Service webs e http://www.ford.com/customerservice outlines the program¡¯s terms of coverage. To utilize the Ford Roadside Assistance program, consumers call 1-800-241-3673 (Ford/Mercury) or 1-800-521-4140 (Lincoln). Ford¡¯s Roadside Assistance Customer Service Representative (CSR) sends local author ies (police, emergency vehicles) to the scene if needed, which provides added secur y and safety, an option missing from some insurance roadside assistance plans. The CSR then dispatches a service provider w h an estimated time of arrival of 30-45 minutes. Ford Roadside Assistance participants choose which authorized dealership w hin 35 miles to have their vehicle towed to, free of charge. If the consumer chooses a selling dealership beyond 35 miles, Ford Roadside Assistance pays for the first 35 miles of the trip. The service tows vehicles w h flat tires to the nearest tire service facil y or dealership depending on the customer¡¯s preference. Fuel delivery (up to two gallons), battery jump-starts and lockout assistance are all available to Ford customers. After Ford¡¯s Roadside Assistance coverage period expires, Ford customers can receive Roadside Assistance w h an annual fee to the Ford Auto Club or pay for the service as needed. OEM roadside assistance programs result from today¡¯s safe, lower maintenance cars. Ford¡¯s Roadside Assistance program is just one example of the many OEM plans that provide a prompt, reliable, money saving, alternative to insurance companies¡¯ roadside assistance claims. And when your car breaks down leaving you stranded, having someone fast and reliable to call for help can make all the difference in the world.
